MEDIA RELEASE Daniel Wessel will be interviewing for the position of superintendent with the board of education on Wednesday January 25th, 2023.
Daniel Wessel is the third of a select group of candidates that the USD 341 Oskaloosa board of education will be interviewing. Candidates were selected for interviews based on their fit with desired characteristics that were developed with input from focus groups and an online community survey utilized during the search process.
Daniel Wessel is currently serving as superintendent at USD 469 Lansing. He is in his 4th year in this position. He has spent the majority of his career at Lansing in various leadership roles, including 8 years as the assistant superintendent.

Laura Batson is the second of a select group of candidates that the USD 341 Oskaloosa board of education will be interviewing. Laura Batson is currently serving as the Director of Teaching at USD 453 Leavenworth. She is in her 6th year in this position. She has spent the majority of her tenure with USD 453 in various leadership roles.

Bob Davies will be interviewing for the position of superintendent with the board of education on Tuesday January 24th, 2023.
Bob Davies is the first of a select group of candidates that the USD 341 Oskaloosa board of education will be interviewing. Candidates were selected for interviews based on their fit with desired characteristics that were developed with input from focus groups and an online community survey utilized during the search process.
Bob Davies is currently serving as the Superintendent for USD 336 Holton. He is in his 6th year in that position. Previously, Davies served as a Superintendent for 10 years at USD 347 Kinsley and Principal for 5 years at USD 338 Valley Falls.

January Board Review
The Board elected Dakota Davis as President and Jana Farmer as Vice President for the calendar year 2023 and set the monthly meeting for the SECOND Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Boardroom.

Superintendent's Report
The Superintendent provided the Board with a list of Frequently Asked Questions concerning Special Education funding as this will be a common topic with the Legislature during the current session.
Boone Heston was appointed to represent the Board on the district calendar committee.
Board members were reminded about Donuts for Dads this Friday at 7:30.
The Superintendent reported on meeting with the BoardDocs company to investigate the possibility of purchasing a Board meeting software that will increase transparency and organize Board meetings.
Discussion Items
The Board heard a report from Recreation Committee member Ken Newell. The Commission is working on combining youth sports under one umbrella.
The Board heard the annual district financial audit. It was a clean audit.
The Superintendent provided a first reading of a proposed Narcan policy.
Board member Jana Farmer reported on the Keystone monthly meeting.
The Superintendent gave a budget report showing that with 50% of the year completed there is 60% general fund money still available and 89% LOB money available. These are the two main budget items that fund the district.

The Board accepted the audit results.
The Board approved KASB yearly policy updates.
The Board approved Strategic Goals for USD 341.

The Veterans Day Committee of Oskaloosa High School will be taking orders for t-shirts and sweatshirts. The committee is selling t-shirts, long sleeve shirts, crew neck sweatshirts, and hoodies. The apparel will be cotton and the color will be black. The deadline to place an order will be Monday, November 21st. Please make all checks payable to USD 341. Orders can be turned into the Oskaloosa Jr/Sr. High office or Rod Stottlemire, Oskaloosa High School Veterans Day Coordinator. **There needs to be a combined 20 items to place the order.**

The USD 341 BOE announces changes with our superintendent position.
Joe Palmer formally resigned on November 8th and will continue his duties until November 30th, 2022. We thank Mr. Palmer for his time in his role.
We would also like to present Mike Mathes as the interim successor to Mr. Palmer. Mr. Mathes comes to USD 341 with numerous years of Kansas superintendent experience as a permanent superintendent and as an interim. His previous experience will benefit our school district.
We look forward to Mr. Mathes and Mr. Palmer working together to make a successful transition on December 1st.
