Grading and Expectations

Students will be involved in activities that align with the Music Curriculum. Each student’s mastery of specified skills will be rated on a 5 point scale. Assessment methods will include direct observation, written assessments, and performance assessments Individual ‘talent’ will not be included in assessment. Activities may included, but not be limited to:

playing instruments
individual/small group singing
worksheets/tests
public performance

These items will be used to determine 60% of each student’s grade.

Each student may earn up to 100 points per class period. This evaluation will be based on observations of the following areas:

personal conduct
individual preparation
effective use of rehearsal time
participation in classroom activities

Classroom expectations have been discussed and are posted in the room. Failure to meet these basic expectations may result in a loss of daily points. Daily points will be used to determine 40% of each students grade.

Grading Scale

5 Displaying mastery of all curriculum items at their grade level
Demonstrating excellent rehearsal skills
4 Displaying mastery of most curriculum items at their grade level
Demonstrating above average rehearsal skills
3 Displaying mastery of some curriculum items at their grade level
Demonstrating average rehearsal skills
2 Displaying mastery of few curriculum items at their grade level
Demonstrating below average rehearsal skills
1 Displaying mastery of no curriculum items at their grade level
Demonstrating poor rehearsal skills.
