10/9/09: The Bears played host this Friday evening to the Doniphan West Mustangs. The Bears started off pretty well by driving down the field on their first possession and taking an early 8-0 lead. The Bears really never looked back as they set the tone for the game. The defense was porous at times as the Mustangs scored 25 points. All in all, the Bears put together a pretty good game, winning 55-25. The Bears improve to 5-1 on the season and play host to Pleasant Ridge this Friday.
10/2/09: The Bears again took to the road this Friday evening to face the Wildcats from Wathena. In what was a chilly matchup with rain and cold temperatures, Oskaloosa made some costly early mistakes. Oskaloosa drove the ball deep into Wildcat territory on the first two drives but fumbled the ball away. Wathena turned those turnovers into quick scores as the running back scored off of long runs. Oskaloosa shut down the Wildcat offense for the rest of regulation. Oskaloosa pounded it out and put together two scoring drives to make the score 14-14 to end regulation. In overtime, the Bears couldn’t convert, while the Wildcats scored to win the game by a score of 20-14. Oskaloosa falls to 4-1 on the season and plays host to Doniphan West this Friday night. 9/25/09: The Bears took to the road this Friday to face a tough match-up with the Troy Trojans. The Bears started off on the wrong foot by putting the ball on the ground each of their first three possessions turning the ball over twice. Thunderstorms came into the area and the players left the field in hopes of returning shortly. The game was called off shortly thereafter and scheduled for 7:00 Saturday night. The Bears returned to Troy on Saturday in what proved to be, “The Battle of the Defenses.” Oskaloosa scored on a long drive and failed to convert the extra point. The defense turned right around and scored a safety to make the game 8-0. The scoring was done for the night as the Bears improved to 4-0 on the season. The Bears travel to Wathena this Friday night. A huge thank you to everyone who made the trip to Troy!
9/18/09: The Bears celebrated Homecoming by hosting the Jackson Heights Cobras. Jackson Heights, also 2-0, looked to be a tough contest. Oskaloosa put together a solid ball game. They scored on their first two possessions to break the game open. The Bears fought hard all night long and came out victorious at the end with a 39-0 victory. Oskaloosa moves to 3-0 on the year and travels to Troy on Friday.
9/11/09: The Bears hosted Immaculata for the home opener. Senior running back Brandon Barnes broke long runs on the first two possessions of the game to break the game wide open for the Bears. The Bears controlled the Raiders all night to win by a score of 50-20. Oskaloosa moves to 2-0 on the year.
9/4/09: The Oskaloosa Bears football team traveled to Valley Falls to take on the Dragons. The season started out rough for the Bears as Valley Falls returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The Bears showed their will and determination by fighting their way back. They held off the Dragons’ late drive to seal a victory with a score of 24-21. Oskaloosa moves to 1-0 on the year.
